Bible Study Thoughts
April 11, 2025
I’ve taken down the “What is the Church” study-for now. It’s a much bigger project than I realized. I’ll continue to work on it, and will post it when it’s finished. I’ve come to the conclusion, developing Bible studies, on the one hand, is pointless. Why do I say that? The law, prophets, poetry and wisdom books along with the gospels, the letters and Revelation are inseparable. In order to do even a simple study, it’s like I have to re-write the entire Bible. There’s no need since God has already covered that base.
The best way to study the Bible really is to read a little everyday until you’ve read it cover to cover, then start again. Meanwhile, taking time to reflect on what you’ve read for the day. I recommend five chapters per day. That’s been a nice steady pace for our family. We’ve finished reading: Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, then Song of Songs, in that order, and are starting Genesis again.
I suggest you listen to the Bible in an audio format with a bluetooth speaker as you sleep. When you wake up, listen to and ponder the text (wherever that happens to be) until you go back to sleep. Repeat the next time you awaken. Do this every night for the rest of your life. I find it to be extremely beneficial.
I think I’ll switch to a devotional(ish) type of format. That will help me take notes as we go, which I can share but also use for the various larger projects currently underway. This will allow me to have all my faculties working together in harmony instead of being disjointed and creating redundancies. Unfortunately, it may take a little longer to finish any one project but, the quality should be better in the end.
Sincerely…
With all the things vying for our attention how do we declutter and simplify our spiritual life/ faith and help others do the same?
